We’re thrilled to learn of the Sunnyside Bike Friendly Business District! The District is officially launching this Saturday, August 23. The Transportation Alternatives Queens crew has worked with local business owners throughout Sunnyside for the past 6 months to make this happen, and have learned that many want to see safer, more bike-friendly streets. Some have also signed on to TA Queens’s Zero on Queens Boulevard open letter in support of a safer boulevard for all road-users. Big thanks to Sunnyside Shines for their help on this!
In addition, Sunnyside’s Boulevard Bars has helped out a lot in organizing this launch, which will recognize the business leaders that are devoted to making the streets safer.
So join the festivities this Saturday, which start at 2 p.m.! There will be a leisurely bike ride happening, where you’ll get to tour the neighborhood and check out the bike-friendly businesses while en route. But first, the kickoff will be at the new Bliss Street Plaza (46th Street and Queens Boulevard), where you’ll get a chance to hear from folks from Sunnyside Business Improvement District and the Boulevard of Bars talk about why they support better biking conditions in their area. We believe Sunnyside resident Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer will also be participating.
And if you don’t have a bike, that’s ok! There will be a walking route for those who prefer to be ped-powered. And everyone will have a chance to get their nom on, with free food samples from participating restaurants and shops.
